Children from new arrival families living in subdivided housing often face significant educational hurdles, with English language gaps leading to stress and low academic self-esteem. To provide practical support, PLF partnered with Miss Wani, a professional phonics teacher in Summer 2024 to deliver a targeted 4-week Phonics Program in Caritas Common Home for primary learners.
By focusing on the foundation of decoding, blending, and segmenting words, the children gained confidence in their reading abilities in the upcoming school year. The program not only improved their foundational literacy skills, but also restored their confidence and enthusiasm for learning.
